Constructed of a soft polyethylene material, this appliance is usually custom molded to the maxillary arch to prevent oral trauma during contact sports. Other uses for this device include use as a tissue conditioning appliance for treating hyperplasia and as an excellent fluoride tray. It can also be used by bruxism patients when the usual hard acrylic splint cannot be tolerated.
