When a primary cuspid is lost prematurely, the anteriors can shift into its position. This causes a loss of arch length in that area. This can be prevented with the use of a lingual arch wire with stops. In the design shown here, loops have also been added to the arch wire. These loops allow the doctor to adjust the length of the arch wire to gain a small amount of arch length.
