Mask therapy can provide effective treatment for mid-face insufficiency, mandibular prognathism, maxillary hypoplasia, clefts, and tongue problems. This utility appliance is designed to be used in conjunction with a face mask (as described by Henri Petit) and consists of occlusal onlays (to free the bite) and hooks buccal to the cuspids (for attachment of the elastics to the mask). The generated force can then be used to affect the forward movement of the maxilla as a whole, the rotation of the maxillary pyramid, or the “dental drawer” movement of both arches.
